About The Event

Counselling professionals are increasingly seeking training for working with gender variant clients. Madison-Amy Webb invites them to consider a simple truth: everyone has a gender identity, whether or not they’ve given it much thought. By reflecting on their own gender identity through the exercises provided, counsellors can relate to clients in new and productive ways, gaining a more nuanced understanding of the issues faced by their clients and of their own identity.

Incisive yet accessible, this unique training shines a light on how the popular conception of gender identity came into being by looking at the social and historical influences at play. This context is then brought to life with a rich variety of case studies and excerpts from the participant’s own diary. Reflective exercises will allow the delegates to explore gender identity and come to understand their  ‘Personal Meaning’ will help readers develop a deeper understanding of their own gender identity, while clinical techniques offer new ways to connect with gender variant clients effectively. Debunking Gender: The Trouble with Gender Variance?

Time to consider the truth that we are all a little bit intersex, and that instead of looking for differences between one another, perhaps it is now time to begin looking at our similarities, how each and every person on planet earth is determining their gender identity in a very personal way, it’s something we are all doing. Gender labels whether they are binary, or transgender all establish an other, they are also an example of gender lethargy) so it is time to consider our personal responsibility towards our own gender identity and those of our clients, dare we be ourselves? Here we will look at the implications of this.
